Kemah death said due to strangulation

Using bare hands, someone strangled Annie Marsha Morgan to death in her apartment, a Galveston County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said on Thursday.

The results of the autopsy by the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed no ligature marks such as a rope or a belt on Morgan, 65, said Maj. Ray Tuttoilmondo.

Morgan’s son Robert Steve Morgan, 49, was located in Webster on Friday and interviewed by law enforcement officers. No charges are pending against anyone but the department is “not ruling out any possibilities,” Tuttoilmondo said Monday.

“We found him safe and his welfare is fine,” he said. “Both he and his mother have had some health problems and weren’t working,” he said.

Detectives learned that the son had been somewhat despondent and were concerned for his welfare. The mother’s body was found late Monday afternoon.

Tuttoilmondo said that the examiner’s theory is that she was killed sometime within a four- or five-day window, possibly before Thanksgiving.

The son, Tuttoilmondo said, lived in the same apartment complex as his mother in the 600 block of FM 2094.

Sheriff’s deputies conducted a “thorough search” last Wednesday night but are still working with family members to see if there’s anything missing, said Tuttoilmondo.

Anyone with information of Annie Morgan’s death should call the Galveston County Sheriff’s Department at 409-766-2322 or the TIPS line at 866-248-8477.
